"Run For The Roses" song lyrics

"Run for the Roses" by Dan Fogelberg
(The 134th Kentucky Derby is Saturday, May 3rd)

Born in the valley and raised in the trees
Of western Kentucky on wobbly knees
With Momma beside you to help you along
You'll soon be a-growin' up strong.

All the long, lazy mornings in pastures of green
The sun on your withers, the wind in your mane
Could never prepare you for what lies ahead
The run for the roses so red --

And it's run for the roses as fast as you can
Your fate is delivered, your moment's at hand
It's the chance of a lifetime in a lifetime of chance
And it's high time you joined in the dance.

From sire to sire it's born in the blood
The fire of a mare and the strength of a stud
It's breeding and it's training and it's something unknown
That drives you and carries you home --

And it's run for the roses as fast as you can
Your fate is delivered, your moment's at hand
It's the chance of a lifetime in a lifetime of chance
And it's high time you joined in the dance
It's high time you joined in the dance --

OMG, when I was a young girl I would listen to this song (they played it during every Derby race special on t.v.) and just cry like a baby! Thanks for publishing it, it was nice to read it (and of course I started singing it in my head...not aloud mind you, as I can't carry a tune worth beans! ;)

DJ: one more thing, how did you do your cool personalized header on your blog? I would like to jazz mine up a bit but I am unsure how to do it?! Thanks for your help!! :)

Pony Girl: I made a graphic from the purple horse clipart. It's 640 wide by 94 high. The width of 640 is the crucial size for the graphic. Yours could be taller than 94, if you want.

On your blog, click Layout - Page Elements - Header Edit - Browse to image on your computer. Click Placement Behind Title and Description.

Hope that helps. If not, I could make one for you.

Thanks for the help...I think I sort of figured it out! Did you get the clip art from a website? Then what format did you create the header graphic in? I am curious because the only thing that will load into google is a .jpg. I wish a word .doc would load, I've created a lot of cool headers with that! ;) (I am so computer illiterate!)

The clipart was from a free clipart site. I only loaded the clipart since Blogger accepted it. I didn't need to make a special graphic. All I can say is try loading different .jpg photos or clipart, and see what works best. You might need to change the text colors in your header or reposition the text.
